Kicked out!
July 15, 2009
This actually happened a couple of weeks ago but I neglected to blog about it – Zoe has graduated to sleeping in her own bed! Not by her own design, naturally. If we hadn’t kicked Alison out when she was about 3 years old, she’d probably still be sleeping happily with us. But after 7 years of sharing a bed with a child, it was high time for K and me to reclaim our sleeping space. Not that it’s made much of a difference; we still sleep right on the edge of the bed, in peril of falling off.
Anyway, success came about when I insisted on buying a Lucky Baby foam bed for Zoe. It has helped us achieve two milestones – moving her out of our bed, and out of our room altogether. We’d previously tried to move her to a fold-out sofa bed type thing, but that wasn’t very good because the fold-out wasn’t big enough and it didn’t have raised sides, so she would roll off and end up sleeping on the cold floor half the night. K was resistant to the foam bed not least because it’s butt-ugly, but I decided to take the bull by the horns and buy it anyway. Et voila! The night it arrived, Zoe was enthralled by the dolphin print and slept almost all night in it, only waking up at about 5am to crawl into bed with us. Since then, we’ve not seen her in our bed, so I think the $149 was very well spent indeed.
Now if only we could get her out of her diapers, and off her milk bottle!
